I usually love embracing new technology but kindles are just wrong. Nothing beats reading a book, turning the pages & bookcases full of books in a house
Kevin I used to be of the same opinion. Then I bought an iPad. eReaders give you so much that paper and glue doesn't. Yes there is a tactile pleasure in holding a book, but that's where the advantages end. Books are easily damaged, or lost. eBooks are yours forever. I can search for terms or phrases (or that character who just turned up again in chapter 50 who you last heard about in chapter 2), I can get an instant dictionary definition of a work I don't know, I can bookmark pages and have those bookmarks shared between devices, I can highlight sections of text and make notes on them without making an indelible mark on a piece of paper (or have to find a working pen), I can read previews of books I may be interested in without the risk of buying ahead or finding a copy in the library and best of all, my entire library is at my fingertips on a bunch of synchronized devices.
The Bards of yesteryear insisted that printed books would never take off because they could not impart the same sense of reality as the spoken word telling a tale. This is the next logical step and in 50 years, kids will remember paper books with the same sort of fondness that we now remember VHS cassettes and vinyl LPs.
